Seppo Virtanen, Sales Engineer at Rejlers Oy Energiapalvelut, feels that the main advantages of the Utility Web are its simplicity, clarity, and ease of use.
- We have developed the software together with IT Mill already since 2003 and we are currently on its third, entirely renewed version, Virtanen says. - From our perspective, the expertise of IT Mill is best seen in the diverse graphical features of the Utility Web, which can be used to illustrate different types of figures and comparisons clearly and understandably.

- The Utility Web service model is straightforward and tangible for all parties, Seppo Virtanen specifies. In accordance with the Open Source model, Rejlers Oy Energiapalvelut gains use of a constantly developing service. The service is further developed by IT Mill in order to improve its features and usability.
The electricity and heating companies throughout the country sell the Utility Web service to their own local customers. While doing so, they also develop their own service concept in accordance with the energy efficiency directives of energy services and buildings.
- The final customers, the owners of the property for example, benefit from the improved consumption and cost monitoring information provided by the service, which result in realised savings, Virtanen says.
Using reporting with an accuracy of up to an hour, a precise picture of the water and electricity usage of a shopping centre, industrial facility, or other large structure can be obtained for different parts of the day. The information can then be used to identify potential changes to functions in order to create savings.
- Ultimately, energy efficiency also benefits the environment, Seppo Virtanen states.
